Help your relationship with our webcam service
Tavistock Relationships is a world-leading centre of excellence providing therapy and counselling for couples and individuals. We combine cutting edge research in supporting couples and individuals with our rich tradition and clinical expertise accumulated over 70 years. Our new online therapy service makes our therapy services available to people who are not able to access our central London-based centres.
What is online therapy?
Online therapy is a new way of delivering couple counselling via the Internet. It’s just like face-to-face therapy except you and your partner communicate with your therapist via your personal computer. This service is also known as webcam counselling, online counselling, e-therapy, distance therapy, internet therapy and web therapy. It can prove as effective as its face-to-face alternative for some couples.
The quality of our relationships profoundly effects how we feel about ourselves and our partner, but it goes deeper than that …
… it also has consequences for our lives and for those around us – the emotional, cognitive and physical development of our children, our capacity to work and to be fulfilled in work, and our physical and mental health.
Sustaining a fulfilling and stable relationship is never easy. When pressures related to work, money, children, family tensions and ill health arise they often cause problems for both partners and their relationship. This often leads to difficult emotions, including depressive feelings and disappointment, which in turn create difficulties for both partners.
If you attend as a couple, we aim to help you to improve your communication and to understand and resolve underlying issues and conflicts. We find that people usually feel greatly relieved and happier having had a chance to talk through things. Clients have also told us they found our therapy helped them with:
- their general wellbeing
- a more stable family life
- improved sexual relationships
- greater understanding of their own and their partner’s feelings
- reducing jealousy
- increasing their confidence

Our online therapy service uses a secure video link to enable couples to talk with a trained therapist where having a face-to-face meeting would not be possible. We use a platform called Zoom (similar to Skype or FaceTime) which is simple to use and has a high standard of data security.
To use Zoom please ensure:
- Your device has a webcam, microphone and speakers.
- You have a reliable internet connection: broadband or wireless recommended at a minimum of 2 Mbps speed. If accessing from mobile devices please ensure you have a stable 3G/4G connection.
Zoom works with the following operating systems:
- Windows 7 or later
- Mac OS X with Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later
- Phones and tablets: IOS, Android and Blackberry.
To access your meeting, click on the link contained in your appointment confirmation email.
Depending on your browser, the first time you use Zoom you may be prompted to download the Zoom software. This will only take a moment to complete by following the onscreen instructions. Once downloaded, you will be able to join your meeting. Your video screen will automatically load once the therapist has also joined the meeting.
You can access our confidential high quality professional online therapy from any part of the United Kingdom, Europe and further afield.
