Introducing spring CPD events for psychotherapists from TR Together
Published in Blog by Alice Jacobs Waterfall on December 30th 2023
After our hugely successful series of winter events, Head of TR Together, Alice Jacobs Waterfall, explains the thinking behind our new season which runs from January to March 2024.
“Before we launched TR Together we researched what psychotherapists wanted from their CPD. We learned that people want events which are relevant, in depth and which deal with the issues that working therapists are encountering on a day-to-day basis.
Dealing with clinical impasse
A recurring theme was what to do when therapy gets ‘stuck’. We are tackling this topic head on in a series of five events on the theme of clinical impasse. A therapeutic impasse can lead to self-doubt among therapists, as well as concerns that the client may terminate the therapy prematurely. We aim to demonstrate that these challenging moments can offer great insights for both client and therapist.
Contemporary challenges
Modern life is bringing different issues into therapy rooms and we have researched speakers who bring new insight to topics including menopause and fathering. Orna Guralnick, the clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst from the acclaimed television series ‘Couples Therapy’, will present two cases from the show in an online webinar. The two couples, Sean & Erica and Christine & Nadine, provide an opportunity to think about relationship dynamics underpinned by cultural differences, including religion, ethnicity, race and gender, and how these factors intersect.
Lonely or alone
Loneliness is a pervasive state in modern society and in this seminar attendees will be offered valuable insights on how to guide clients from the depths of loneliness towards the bliss of solitude. Lesley Caldwell will present the theoretical discourse emerging from the silent dialogue between Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott. Our other distinguished speakers will present compelling case material, encompassing family dynamics, extreme trauma survivors, and the psychotherapists’ experience of loneliness.
Meet us at the Freud Museum
While the majority of our events are online, each season we are committed to hosting at least one in-person event. In December we were joined by Julia Samuel and daughters Sophie and Emily to discuss their hit podcast 'Therapy Works' with Eugene Ellis, Director of BAATN and author. This season we will be back at the Freud Museum with two acclaimed psychoanalysts - Galit Atlas and Susie Orbach - discussing the ideas from Galit's bestselling book 'Emotional Inheritance'. Tickets for this event are likely to sell out quickly so we would recommend booking soon.”
